Oh yeah, surprised you're not familiar with them. I've got/played several of their games; they're very popular in the German-style board games scene. I'd be happy to play show and tell sometime with the ones I have/know about.

perhaps i enjoyed catan so much more than risk because it was about competeing for resources instead of direct conflict, like the article pointed out. that appeals to my rogue nature.
